 Joseph G. Kuha, 85, of Dickson City, died Monday evening March 1, 2010 at home. He is survived by his wife the former Eleanor Zalewski; they had celebrated 60 years of marriage on February 18.
Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late Michael and Margaret Huba Kuha and he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City and its Holy Name and St. Stanislaus Kostka societies. A graduate of Dickson City High School class of 1943 he received an associate degree in business from Penn State University. He served with the US Army during WW ll, and he was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars post 5937, and American Legion Post 665 both of Dickson City. For many years he owned and operated the Dickson City Dairy and prior to retirement he was employed by Farview State Hospital, Waymart as a guard.
He served as a Dickson City Councilman, with the Dickson City Ambulance Association and he was a founding member of the Dickson City Revelliers and the Dickson City Community Club and he received the Hawk Award for his contributions to the youth sports programs of Dickson City.
Surviving are five children, Jan Kuha and Wanda Ruschak, Justus, Marilyn Jackson and husband John, Avoca, Walter Kuha and wife Janet, Temple, TX, Donna Burke and husband Robert, Old Saybrook, CT, and Gerard Kuha and wife Kim, Hollisterville; former daughter in law Theresa Kuha; grandchildren, Jesse Ricketts, Jan Kuha, Kate Fletcher, Aaron and Adam Kuha, Kerry and Daniel Burke and Alexander Kuha; four great grandchildren; a brother, Edward Kucha and wife Barbara, Dickson City; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Michael Kuha and sisters, Arlene Davailus and Elizabeth Kuha.
The funeral with military honors will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
