Michael Alexander Hrinko, Turbo, 22, a resident of Dickson City died
Friday at home.
Born in Scranton on September 13, 1985, he was the son of MaryAnn
Grebausky Hrinko, Dickson City and the late William Hrinko Jr. He was
a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School and Bishop O'Hara High
School class of 2003. He attended Temple University, Philadelphia.
He was employed by the Postal Service and at his family's business,
Hrinko Flower and Gift Shop, Dickson City.
He was a member of St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City where he
was an altar server for 7 years. He was a former member of Boy Scout
Troop 322, where he attained the rank of Life Scout. He was also a
former junior member of Eagle Hose Co. Dickson City. While attending
Bishop O'Hara he was on the wrestling team for four years and the
football team for one year.
Michael had an entrepreneurial spirit and he started his own business,
Mike's small Lawn Care, at the age of 11 and continued until he went
away to college. Michael was a very compassionate person and was a
great help to his mom, especially since his Dad passed away. His
compassion and concern were exemplified by his long time friendship
with his best friend Kyle Marshalek who passed away in August, and his
many friends both locally and across the United States. He loved to
travel and to attend various music shows especially those having to do
with the Grateful Dead. He was an avid skier and enjoyed hunting
and fishing. He was a fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles
Football teams and playing poker.
Surviving is his maternal grandmother, Leona Grebausky, Carbondale;
his twin sister, Melissa, Shippensburg, PA; two brothers, William,
Montpelier, VT and Christopher, at home; uncles and aunts, Bob and Pat
Wagner and Inez Kopach, Carbondale, Judy Wirth, Marty and Michele
Hrinko, and Michele Wasnetsky all of Dickson City; cousins, Robert,
Jonathan and Patrick Wagner, Amber and Joanne Kopach, James Wirth,
Paula Wasnetsky, Marty and Matthew Hrinko; numerous great uncles,
aunts and cousins including a special cousin Mary Rosich, Dickson
City, who was like another grandmother to Mike.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Alexander
Grebausky and his paternal grandparents, William Sr. and Pearl
Visbisky Hrinko and two uncles Jim Wirth and Joseph Kopach.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur
Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with mass at 10:30
a.m. in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment St.

Richard T. Ostringa

Richard T. Ostringa, 61, a resident of Dickson City, died Thursday May
1st, at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital.
Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late Joseph and Marie
Olszewski Ostringa. He was a member of St. Mary?s Visitation Church,
Dickson City and he was a graduate of St. Mary?s Parochial School and
he was a 1964 graduate of Dickson City High School. He retired from
General Electric in Connecticut and later worked at Haband, Peckville.
He was a social member of American Legion Post 665 Dickson City and
Shopa Davey Post 6082, Peckville.
Surviving is a brother, Joseph Ostringa, Dickson City.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St.
Mary?s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Cremation will take place at
Maple Hill at Salem Crematory and burial of the cremains will be in
St. Mary?s cemetery, Dickson City. There will be no calling hours.

Antoinette Broskey, 85, a life long Dickson City resident, died
Wednesday, April 30th, at the Asera Care Hospice at Mid Valley
Hospital, Peckville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew
J. Broskey, who died March 4, 1993.
Born in Dickson City on September 11, 1922, she was the daughter of
the late Marian and Sophie Milun Pracki. She was a member of St.
Mary?s Visitation Church, Dickson City and a dedicated choir member
for most of her adult life.
She was a 1940 graduate of Dickson City
High School and the Lackawanna Business School. She had been employed
by the American Tobacco Company, RCA Defense Plant, Jersey City, NJ,
the Borough of Dickson City and she retired from St. Mary?s Church,
Dickson City.
Antoinette was actively involved with her High School Reunion
Committee, serving for close to 60 years as Secretary. She loved
classical music and opera and played an integral role in encouraging
her granddaughter to pursue those interests. Antoinette was an avid
reader, enjoying mysteries and the classics. She took great pride in
her garden and flowers.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who always looked forward to
spending time with her family, celebrating Christmas and Easter. The
church always played an important role in her daily life, never
missing praying the rosary every day.
Surviving are a daughter, Andrea Pilch and her husband, Raymond and
granddaughter Rachel, of Moosic; a son, Mark, Dickson City, who was
her devoted caregiver during her final illness; a niece, Paula Wood,
Randolph, MA and a cousin, Bernadette Zielinski, Northport, NY.
The funeral will be Monday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral
Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with mass at 9:30 a.m. in
St. Mary?s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment, St. Mary?s
Cemetery, Dickson City.

Sister Mary Jolanta Bartkowski

Sister Mary Jolanta Bartkowski, 93, died Monday morning April 28th at
Immaculate Conception Convent, Lodi, NJ.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Frank and
Antoinette Rolka Bartkowski. One of 20 children she entered religious
life in 1937. Sister attended St. Mary?s Parochial School, Dickson
City and began her secondary education at Dickson City High School.
She completed this phase at the Immaculate Conception Convent High
School, Lodi, NJ. She was graduated with honors from the nursing
program at Misericordia Hospital, New York City, and earned a
scholarship at St. John?s University, Brooklyn, NY where she received
a bachelor?s degree in nursing education. She spent many years in
various nursing assignments, including supervisory positions at
Blackwell General Hospital, Okla. She was then transferred to the
Motherhouse in Lodi, NJ and a new assignment at St. Joseph?s Hospital,
Philadelphia. She received a master?s degree from Villanova
University and joined the faculty of the School of nursing at St.
Joseph?s Hospital where she was promoted to the office of Director of
the School of Nursing. She retired as Director of In-service
Education, providing continuing education for nursing and hospital
personnel, at St. Joseph?s.
Sister celebrated her Golden Jubilee on April 25, 1987 and she had
served in religious life for 71 years.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great
great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Mazur, Lottie Shalkowski,
Rose Stash, Frances Krieski, Helen Myak, Ann Fedmik, Wanda, Tessie and
Charlotte Bartkowski and brothers, John, Chester, Joseph, Hilary,
Alex, Anthony, Walter, Stanley, Alfred and Frank Bartkowski.
Mass will be celebrated 11am Wednesday April 30th at the
Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel in Lodi, NJ.

Sonia J. Novak, 73, a resident of RD Olyphant, died Tuesday April 22nd, at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She is survived by her husband William Novak; they had celebrated 50 years of marriage on November 2, 2008.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late David and Mary Oprisko Kalaha; she was a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Olyphant. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Parochial School and Dickson City High School. Prior to retirement she was employed by Haband, Peckville. For many years she served as the secretary for the Lakeland Midget Football League.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and sister who was devoted to her grandchildren. Her family would like to thank the staff at Moses Taylor Hospital and Hospice Community Care for their kindness and care. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are three sons, William and wife Karen, RD Olyphant, Daniel and wife Ann, Dalton and Michael and wife Lisa, RD Olyphant; grandchildren, William, Kristopher, Anthony, Daniel, Alicia, Mikey, Nicholas Novak and step grand daughter Samantha Rozelle; a sister, Helen Kraycinovich, Dickson City; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, MaryAnn Makala and Patricia Dragowski and a brother Wallace Kalaha.

Barbara Wiener, 77, formerly of New York City
and Dickson City,
died Saturday April 19th, at
the Lackawanna Health Care Center, Sturges.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late James
and Constance DeGutisBarrett. She was a graduate of Dickson
City High School and
St. Mary’s College and she also
attended Culinary school in New York. She had been employed
as a model and prior to retirement as a Real Estate Broker
both in New York City.
Surviving is a son Alexander Barrett and wife Sonja, Farmington,
NY; two grandchildren Austin and Ava Barrett, Farmington, NY;
a brother, James Barrett, CA and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a sister Faith Barrett Spencer.
The funeral will be Tuesday, April 22nd, at 10 a.m. with a
blessing service at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dickson City

Judith A. Kasper, 71, a life long Dickson City resident, died Saturday April 12th, morning at home.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Florence Laggan Trostel; she was a former member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Dickson City and she was a graduate of Dickson City High School and Hahnemann Hospital school of Radiology. She had been employed as an Isotope Technician and Radiologist and had worked in the dental offices of her son, Gerald Kasper DMD and John Mack DDS and in the office of Animal Arrest for her son, Thomas.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas Kasper, Dickson City and Gerald Kasper, DMD and his wife Barbara, Dickson City; two grandsons Adam and Ryan Kasper and two granddaughters, Allison and Jessica Kasper; also surviving are cousins.

Frances V. Krempasky, 98, succumbed after a lengthy illness Wednesday, April 9th, at the Bridgewater Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Binghamton, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen Krempasky, who died April 7, 1992.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Rosalie Zlotucha. She resided in Dickson City and Justus, for most of her life and was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. Frances was a graduate of St. Mary’s Parochial School, Dickson City and Lackawanna Business School, Scranton. She worked for many years in the Scranton Dry Goods Store as a sales associate.
She loved gardening and needlework and was an excellent baker of blueberry pies. She was and avid reader of classical literature and was a lover of all modern classical music. Frances was always conscious of fashion and dressed beautifully her entire life. She remained “fiercely independent”.
Surviving are her daughters, Rosalie Grady and husband Philip, Endicott, NY and Marianne Yazinski and husband Edward, Shalimar, FL; five grandchildren, Anne Grady, Charlotte, NC, P. James Grady, Sammamish, WA, Jeffrey Yazinski, Esq., Macon, GA, Michelle Walsh and husband Derry, Tallahassee, FL and Nicole Knotte and husband Nate, Coventry, RI; three great grandchildren, Riley Olivia, Jake Ryan Grady and Maxwell Edward Walsh; one sister, Margaret Waschitz and husband Jack, Henderson, NV; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a son Stephen J. Krempasky in 1987, four brothers, Chester, John “Goldie”, Frederick, and Edward and two sisters, Leocadia Zlotucha and Marie Wright.

John T. Collins, 62, a resident of RD Olyphant, died Thursday at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late William and Helen Campbell Collins, he was a former member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and he was a 1964 graduate of Ben Franklin High School. Prior to his illness he was a building contractor for Matarese Builders.
John’s family would like to thanks all of the people at Allied Services for their kind and considerate care of John during his illness; especially second floor north Skilled Nursing. They are deeply grateful.
Surviving is a son, Sean Collins, Crystal Lake; a daughter, Jennifer Rossi and husband Joseph, Mayfield; three grandsons and one granddaughter; his companion and best friend, Ann Marie Dippel, Olyphant, RD; two brothers, James and wife Lena, Statesville, NC, and Timothy and wife Carol, Lansdale; a sister, Ann McHale, Dunmore; several nieces and nephews.

Julian J. Koza, 95, a resident of Olyphant,
died Sunday April 6th at home. He was preceded in death
by his wife the former Bernice Sielczynski who died in 1994.
Born in Mayfield, he was the son of the late Francis
and Maryanna Wolf Koza, and he was a member of St. Mary’s
Visitation Church, Dickson City. He
attended Olyphant schools and prior to retirement he was
employed as a coal miner, and in the construction industry.
He was a loving husband of 56 years to his wife Bernice
and a loving father. He enjoyed hunting and fishing,
and he was an excellent provider for his family. He
will be deeply missed by his sons and family.
Surviving are two sons, his caregiver Frank, with
whom he resided, Olyphant, and Richard, Lake Winola,
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Juliann Koza,
one sister, Helen Koza and two brothers Lawrence and Charles
Koza.

Lottie M. Chesar, a resident of RD Olyphant, died Thursday April 3rd at the Lackawanna Health Care Center, under the care of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Chesar who died July 22, 1997.
Born in Dupont, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes Lentowski Tetlack; she formerly lived in South River, NJ and she has resided in this area for the past 31 years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City. She attended Dupont schools and she was a homemaker and she had been employed by Steingut Dress, Dupont.
Lottie was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed talking with her sisters often. She also loved to spend time with her granddaughter, Alea, and was very fond of listing to polkas, decorating her home and going on bus trips and to yard sales with her daughter.
Surviving is a daughter, Donna Granville and husband James, Montdale; a granddaughter Alea Granville and a step grandson James Granville Jr., Waymart; three sisters, Arlene Sawkulick, Allentown, Leona Caputo and husband Al, Hughstown, Helen Nasternak and husband Stan, Laflin; brother, Joseph Tetlack and wife Victoria, Dupont; nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Tetlack, Mary Larnerd and three brothers, Jack, Frank and Edward Tetlack.

Born on March 21, 1911, in Priceburg now Dickson City,
she was the daughter of the late Dominick DeGutis and Victoria
DeGutis Zalewski She was a member of St. Mary’s
Visitation Church, Dickson City. She attended Dickson City
schools and she had been employed in the local garment industry,
prior to retirement.

Frances S. Baron, 77, a resident of Blakely, died Saturday morning at the Lackawanna County Health Care Center, Sturges. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Baron who died January 1, 2003. They had been married 49 years.
Born in Dickson City, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Stella Klastawa Prynkiewicz; she was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church, Dickson City, and its Christian Mothers Society. She attended Dickson City schools and she had been employed by Baumel Dress, Dickson City, and RCA, Dunmore. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5937 and the American Legion Post 665 both of Dickson City.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who enjoyed sharing time with her grandchildren. She spent her free time playing bingo at St. Mary’s on Monday evenings, crocheting and gardening. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Surviving is a daughter, Doreen Scott and husband Joseph, Lake Ariel; a son, Joseph Baron and wife Lee Anne, Dickson City; five grandsons, John, Brian and Eric Scott, Jeffrey and Jacob Baron; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Nagy, Montrose, MaryAnn Lahotsky and husband Gene, Blakely, Dolores Prynkiewicz, Dickson City; brothers, Edward Prynkiewicz and wife Cora, S. he was the son of the late George and Mary Fedak Uhrin;
he was a member of SS Cyril & Methodius
Ukrainian Catholic Church, Olyphant, and also the Greek Catholic
Union. He attended Dickson City schools and the Lackawanna
County Vo Tech School. An army veteran of WW ll he
served in the Rhineland and Northern France. Prior
to retirement he was employed as an electronics technician
at Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He was a loving brother
and uncle who enjoyed fishing and reading. He will
be deeply missed.
Surviving are three sisters, Agnes Uhrin, Dickson
City, Mary Mierzejewski and husband Frank, Dickson City and
Anna Benio, Justus; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Uhrin.

Medical Center, Danville. He
was preceded in death by his wife the former Frances Yednasty,
who died August 16, 1997.

he was the son of the late Leo and Mary DeGutis Moczadlowski;
he was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church,
Dickson City. He
was a graduate of Dickson City High
School and he served with the US Army. He
was a member of the American Legion Post 665 and Disabled
American Veterans Chapter 11 both of Dickson City. Prior
to retirement he was employed by Chamberlain Manufacturing,
Scranton.
He was a loving and caring
brother and uncle who enjoyed bowling and playing guitar. He
was an active member of the Veterans groups in Dickson
City serving with the military honor guard and helping with
fund raising activities. He will be deeply
missed.

died Saturday morning at the Gino Merli Veterans Center,
Scranton. She
was preceded in death by her husband Sylvester “Cy” Kazmerski,
who died February 11, 2000. They
were married 56 years.
Born in Gloucester England,
she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Fanny Blewitt
Redding. She attended school in Cinderford and trained
to be a beautician. She met her husband “Cy” while
he was stationed at the “Forest of Dean” during
WW ll. She was one of the first “war brides” to
come to the US in 1946. She
was a member of St. Mary’s Visitation Church,
Dickson City. Before
retirement she was employed by Weston. She was the
first president of the Lackawanna Ladies
Club (Jaycettes) and a member of the AARP Ladies Golf League
and the Greater Scranton Penn State
Chapter.
Beryl was a special person with
a talent to make people smile. She always considered
her family and dear friends her greatest blessings in life.
Surviving is her caregiver, niece Terri Rice Butler
and husband Dean, Moscow and their children, Justin and Dena;
three sisters in law, Stella Rice, Sally Zandarski and Felicia
Kazmerski, all of Dickson City; numerous nieces, nephews,
great nieces, great nephews both in England and the USA.
She was preceded in death by a brother John Ambrose
Redding and a sister Alma Hoare.
The funeral will be Monday with mass at 9:30
a.m. in St. Mary’s Visitation Church,
Dickson City. Interment
will be at the convenience of the family in St.
Joseph’s Cemetery, Scott Twp.

Mary Sashko Sharp, 94, formerly
of McAdoo, Philadelphia and Justus, died Wednesday morning
at the Dunmore Health Care Center. She was preceded in death
by her husband of 53 years, Homer Sharp who died December of
1997.
Born in McAdoo on October 15, 1913, she was
the daughter of the late Peter and Ann Lotash Sashko; she was
a graduate of McAdoo High School, and she was a homemaker.
Her caregivers, Peter and Dolores Sashko wish
to thank the staff of Dunmore Health Care, especially Dr. Dodge,
Jennifer Olexa, Ann Stone, Geri Murphy, Tammy & Sara for
the excellent care provided to Mary. They would also like to
thank Hospice Community Care employees, JoAnne and Paul for
their compassion.
Surviving are her caregivers, brother, Peter
Sashko and wife Dolores, Clarks Summit; nieces MaryAnn Sashko
Ziobro, RN; Michelle Becan, nephews, Peter, John and James
Sashko, Larry Farrow, Leo Fritz, and Eric Thur.
She was preceded in death by three sisters,
Natalie Farrow, Olga Fritz and Ann Thur and a brother, Michael
Sashko.
A blessing service will be conducted Thursday
at 6 p.m. by the Very Reverend Mitred Archpriest John D. Sorochka,
pastor of St. John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Cathedral,
Mayfield in the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Dundaff
St., Dickson City.

Mildred M. Mayorowski, a resident of Blakely
died Thursday at home. She was preceded in death by her husband
Frank, who died July 5, 1984.
Born in Blakely, she was the daughter of the
late John and Francine Sowinski Toton. She was a member of
St. Adalbert's Polish National Catholic Church, Dickson City,
where she was active with the parish picnics and as a quilter.
She was a graduate of Blakely High School. She had worked in
the local garment industry, in the housekeeping departments
of the Ramada Inn, Clarks Summit, and the Days Inn, Dunmore,
and in 1987 she received a degree as a nurses aide and began
working at the Lackawanna Health Care Center, Sturges. She
later worked at Wegman's in Dickson City in the bakery and
deli departments
until retirement.
Surviving are two sons, Frank Jr. and wife Carol,
Clifford and Atty. Gale and wife Vanessa, Old Forge; three
granddaughters, Aubre, Galen, and Olivia Mayorowski; sisters,
Florence Mundro, Dickson City, Dorothy Markiewicz, Janet Neyman
and husband Joseph, and Michalene Pane, all of Blakely; a brother,
Thomas Toton and wife Joyce, Endicott, NY;
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Judge
Toton and a sister, Josephine Toton.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. from the
Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson
City, with mass celebrated by Rev. Senior William Chromey,
pastor at 11:30 a.m. in St. Adalbert's Polish National Catholic
Church, Dickson City. Interment St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Dickson
City.
Friends may call Sunday 6 to 8 p.m. Christian
wake service will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m.

John Krupa Sr., 61 of Olyphant, died Thursday at home after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his lifetime companion and caregiver Zandra Dore Krupa.
Born in Dickson City, he was the son of the late John and Eva Homa Krupa. He was a member of the Bradley Memorial United Methodist Church, Dickson City. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, Dickson City and was a graduate of Johnson Technical Institute, Scranton. Before his illness he was employed as a carpenter and cabinetmaker.
John was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed collecting Lionel trains, spending time with his children and grandchildren and his pets. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are three children, Karessa and husband Angelo Giambrone, Throop, Tammy Buchinski, Olyphant and John Krupa Jr., Olyphant; grandchildren, Samantha Pierro, John Krupa, Alexzandra and Christina Buchinski; a sister, Bernice Colachino, Dickson City and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John’s family would like to give special thanks to the VNA Hospice for their help and care.
The funeral services will be Monday at 9 a.m. by Rev. Sharon Dietz in the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City. Interment will be in Dunmore Cemetery.
